Our Bike Saga

We both love to ride our bikes.

Riding along a country road with the breeze in your hair gives you a wonderful sense of freedom. You can see and you can smell the countryside. However, you need a bike to enjoy this experience................

This story will either make you laugh or cry.

On collecting our new Motorhome in Manchester the previous owner offered us a little 'yellow bike' which had been previously owned by his 82 year old mother!!  Needless to say the bike didn't go very fast, had dodgy brakes and no doubt many other 'joint related' problems. However, we gratefully accepted this gift and took the bike with intention of finding it a new home when we bought bikes of our own.

April 15 - we left the UK on a ferry with yellow bike on board.

April 18 - we purchased two new bikes and safety helmets for anticipated rides in the countryside.

April 19 - gave older 'yellow' bike to owners of the Bayeaux Caravan Park - a lovely couple with friendly little dog and an over weight pig called Matilda.  (She could hardly move!)

May 8 - mix-up in communication. Helena thought Grant was moving forward and Grant thought the site we were going to use was behind him - result? The van catulpulted over kerbside and into a wall. WHAM, BAM and Grants bike was badly damaged .

May 11 - OK - life goes on and we replaced Grant's bike. Looked good and works well but we've now got three bikes - one of which is useless.

May 12 - being good samatarians we decided to try and 'give-away' the damaged bike to a local bike shop so they could use parts etc... rather than throwing it away. Sounded good. So, surrounded by impatient horn blowing drivers, we parked alongside a very busy thoroughfare, made our offer which was rejected AND as we pulled out of our tight parking spot caught a bike wheel in a street bin twisting it beyond repair.  !!! Oh la la - it was Helenas bike.

May 13 - we now have two damaged bikes.  On leaving Savilla we went thru the back streets looking for a rubbish area to leave the bikes and came across a couple of young local lads who were thrilled to be the new 'owners' of our bikes. Good end result for us repair job for them.

We hit the highway with two working bikes. BUT it's not over yet................................

May 14 - arrived in Valencia, we decided to ride on our new bikes from our camping park on the coast into the City centre where we enjoyed a beer or two and some define Tapas. On returning to collect our bikes - we found one. Grants. Helena's one day old bike had gone - some low-life had taken it.  She caught a taxi back to the park and Grant returned on his bike.

May 19 - bought a new bike for Helena at Carrefours in Figurers along with a solid 'unbreakable' bike lock.We now have two working bikes.

BUT WATCH THIS SPACE.........................................
