Portugal

Porto

Met Guy and Fran at Parque de Campismo Da Madalena - commonly known as Madalena with us all enjoying better facilities with just a short walk to the beach. They were an interesting couple with Guy having been in the UK army for many years. We shared stories and they told us about many places. It was windy and rained heavily overnight but we remained quite cosy and dry in our little home on wheels.  Later start and caught bus into Porto. It's a lovely little village which just appears as you round a corner - beautiful little harbour with lots of people enjoying the roadside stalls and sunshine. We strolled around the town, enjoyed a beautiful lunch and then headed home. The roads were very, very narrow and the driver appeared to be having a race with himself. It was quite frightening as he threw the bus around the narrow corners and some of the elderly passengers were calling out for him to slow down.

Another night of rain and heavy winds so we decided to drive from Porto in Northern Portugal to Peniche on the coast to the South. Quite a long drive - but noticed some interesting mosaic tiled houses and market gardens. The GPS did it's best to keep us from toll roads so we bumped along some interesting ones but still managed to pick up Road Tax on four different roads. How do we pay for these??

Peniche

Supposed to be the Silver Coast of Portugal. Beach was beautiful but basically that was that. We stayed at a reasonable place with no service or facilities - and waited until they decided to open the next morning at 9am. before we decided to head towards Lisbon and then inland to Sevilla in Spain.
