Lake Como - Northern Italy |
Due to roadworks, our GPS connection and cover was reduced as we worked our way through the mountains. Needless to say, it was a little frustrating and amusing to the guards on duty on the Swiss border as we bobbed past three times. !!!! We waved.
We finally headed to Lake Como and in near dark conditions we found it a little difficult to find a suitable park. The one we finally arrived at was closed. !!! Fortunately, a car left and we were able to make our way into the park where we stayed for the night.
Got up and felt OK but should've known better ! On leaving our grassy site and after nearly two weeks of rain in the area, our back wheels became badly stuck in the soft top soil.
Solution - get support from 'the wife' and try to help yourself.
Really stuck ........................ |
Second Option - approach Park Management (!!!) and see if they can help. They go for further help.
While Waiting - make eye contact with another camper and see if between you it can be sorted out. No result after big effort and in the meantime we enjoyed the company of Leo the Maltese.
Friendly campers who tried to help |
Leo - loved to play |
When free we continued our drive up the side of Lake Como and found a lovely little park at Dongo. Very small, but well managed and on the Lake. First evening there, we enjoyed a walk to the village alongside the Lake and got to meet the 'locals' the donkey - who did a nose to nose job as Helena looked through the fence, the pigs and chooks and including Giovarni, the newsagents friendly dog who leapt our of the drivers door to continue his contact with us.
Donkey was really friendly |
Giovanni - super friendly .... |
and he jumped out of the drivers window to see us |
During our stay at Lake Como there was some heavy rain, but we were able to catch a bus to Menaggio, to catch the ferry to Varenna for lunch and walk followed by another ferry ride to Bellano, went for another walk and then caught the boat ferry back to Dongo.
Sunny and happy day |
Always love the ferry ... sun and water |
Another great day which gave us the opportunity to see the other villages on the Lake.
