Lake Kontanz

Grant spent the first half of our stay here trying to get our new television working while Helena kept herself busy with numerous household chores - one of which was the washing !!! Ever try using a washing machine with all instructions in another language? Well she did - and in her usual style tried to do it herself only to find that one load went for 2 hours, was still stained and partically dry and the other load stopped without spinning!!!   Go figure.

Later that day we enjoyed a low key meal with a glass of beer overlooking the lake which was quite nice and appeared very popular with young families. On checking - it was the Gerrman school holidays with the Swiss holidays starting the next week. Oh goodie ..................................

Driving further up Lake Kontanz, we visited MAINAU - a Botanic Island in Bodensee which is close to the Swiss border. It was quite beautiful with a display of plants and use of the environment to create a green paradise. Similar to the Adelaide Botancial Gardens, the plantings were named and included country of origin etc......

The highlight of this visit was to a Butterfly enclosure which was quite lovely and it was amazing to walk thru an area which encouraged all of it's inhabitants to create new little butterflies in this safe and controlled environment. They are feed and watched closely by the tour guides.

The design and plantings of the flowers in this park is quite something. Photo to follow, shows a lovely way of displaying the importance of water with these flowers.

We finished our visit to this area with a walk around the island and finished with a cold beer in the sun garden where we could observe the fun and laughter of others.

Heading towards the Alps we passed the Dolomites - which were very grey looking - and recalled seeing the other side in Northern Italy before catching Ferry to the other side of the Lake and entering Austria.

Love the water and always enjoy the Ferry
